We had the chance to speak in brief with the ingenious man behind the mix ” DJ Sizz” and from his replies during the interview he comes off as a very humble, funny and down to earth guy, he even went as far as joking in the interview that the founder of this site might just become a DJ in years to come”,who knows she’s a very ambitious lady , that tends to dabble in everything.

Check below to see what else he reveals during the interview…

1. Give the readers a quick idea of who you are and what you do?

My name is Rene Best , age 25 past student of QC. I consider myself more of a musician than just a “DJ” ..because im more interested in producing and remixing than just the basic djing.

2. So how did it all begin?

I was interested in music from a young age so i practiced alot privately but only started playing publicly last year may and online last year march. the online show basically provided recognition which lead to the playing publicly.

3.Where did the name come from?

At first it was “sizzla” after my favourite artist..and then i guess people just became lazy and cut it to “Sizz”...then after the online show began they added on the “dub” …so sizzdub…no rocket science or specific planning (Laughter)

4.What gave you that initial push?

Push is right…continuous confusion from my friends…mostly damie, dp, 50……to stop “bedroom djing” and start to play out at events/

5.What’s the motto or advice you live by?

Talent and hard work speaks louder than words…just stay humble and work hard, and never ignore good advice

6. What was the first event you ever played at/put on?

First event I ever played at was caleb’s down drink til yuh drown. first event i ever put on was for my birthday called turn up di scheme

7. Tell us something that was really successful or a high point in your career ?

Iin my very short career thus far my highest point was the event i held for my a fairly decent turn out so i was proud of that.

8. What’s you favourite tune of all time?

Very hard to say….but probably sizzla – no pain in jah love…or maybe dennis brown – lust for money..or…nevermind..very hard to say

9.What was your first record you bought?

Never had to buy any actually… just messed with my uncle’s collection..but by the time i was actually serious….cds had taken over. So I would say the first cd i ever bought  would probably be bounty killer’s next millenium or king jammys bada bada riddim cd.

10.When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out?

Mostly playing football or playing PS3 or Twitter

11.So how is the scene in your eyes at the moment?

From what little i have seen… there are a lot of talented djs in the business right now…so its kind of over populated .. so it will be hard for smaller djs to get into the top tier.

12.How do you see the scene 5 years from now?

Five  years from now??? more djs (laughter) might be a dj by then (laughter). I think technology will continue to advance (thus) making it easier to become a dj…so hence more people will take up the art.

13.What advice would you give to up and coming DJs/Promoters?

Well I am still very “up and coming” all I an say is if you have a natural love for music  and the drive and patience it will require….try at it….if you are just in it for the perks or fame…..I dont know

14.Anything else you want to say? Any shout outs?

Ye..Sizzdub resumes the first Monday after exams lol.

Shoutout to Snypa Sounds and Aon Sounds..both give me good advice.
